Campus phones were restored Friday morning after a malfunction with the caller location and number identifier which left some students and faculty unable to make 911 calls from campus since Monday afternoon.
Greg Nicols director of Systems and Communications at CSUN explains, “A piece of hardware failed and was replaced with a new model.”
Mass phone calls, emails and text messages were sent out to inform students of the problem that started on Monday and stretched through the week. The signal between campus and AT&T had to be diagnosed said Nicols.
The messages listed alternative phone numbers to call in the event of an emergency. Blue light emergency phones and elevator phones were still functioning and accessible to students.
As CSUN’s emergency system services are fully restored, students are informed to contact CSUN police dispatch by dialing 911 from a campus phone or by calling (818) 677-2111 from a mobile phone.
