CSUN women’s water polo grabbed a second consecutive victory behind freshman Madeleine Sanchez’s hat-trick with a 4-1 win over No. 20 UC San Diego.
Senior Marisa Young and freshman Shannon Havanesian also hit the back of the net with a pair of goals each in their non-conference win over the Tritons.
The first quarter ended in a 1-1 stalemate, but two goals in the second lifted the Matadors to a 3-2 lead going into the half. CSUN surged in the third, scoring three goals and sank another pair in the last frame to win it 8-4.
Sanchez ended the game with four steals, while goalkeeper Kiernan Davis had eight saves and a steal. Hovanesian recorded two assists and two steals along with her brace.
CSUN will return home Saturday, March 21 for the Alumnae Match, before resuming Big West play against Long Beach State and UC Irvine at the end of the month.
