With high gas prices and hot summer days it’s a hassle to do much that’s affordable. Here’s 10 free things to do these next two months in L.A.:

1. Go to the beach. It may seem like a no brainer, especially if it’s hot, but with the high temperatures in July it’s the perfect idea.

2. Go to a free museum. With over 20 options from the Getty Museum to the California Science Center and special museum days throughout the month, everyday is a good day to go to a museum.

3. Get a free slurpee from chain store 7/11 on July 11. According to 7/11’s Facebook page, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. people can come in a receive a small slurpee drink at participating stores.

4. Check out the Downtown L.A. Art Walk. On July 9, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Owners of L.A. art galleries host the L.A. Art Walk “Street Art and Performance” event, which collaborates with artists and performers from all over L.A.

5. Go to a free outdoor concert. From Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Friday night jazz concerts to KCRW’s weekly free concerts, there’s something for everyone.

6. Take a stroll through Santa Monica’s iconic Third Street Promenade, which will feature the promenade’s month-long Picnic on the Promenade weekly event starting Friday, July 10 at noon.

7. The non-profit Griffith Observatory is free all around, but one can even attend a public star party on a special Saturday of the month. This month the star party falls on July 25 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

8. Catch CSUN’s Summer Movie Fest on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Showing this week “Jurassic Park,” which will feature a 30-foot rampaging t-rex, said Leanne Vincent, A.S. manager of student leadership and production.

9. Watch the fireworks show at Disneyland. Just because the fourth of July has ended, doesn’t mean fireworks aren’t still cool to watch. Anaheim’s iconic and popular firework’s show every evening draws in hundreds, and you don’t have to be in the park to watch it. Just take a stroll down Downtown Disney, and the rest is magic.

10. Lastly, considered the more modern part of Chinatown, Chinatown Art Nights along Chung King road features a few art galleries that range from inspirational for the everyday art student to a fun place for artsy couples to talk about the art itself.

Art galleries may not be everyone’s thing, but it’s still Chinatown; the first established Chinatown in America, features special events, festivals, walking tours and a farmers market.
