To some CSUN students, Northridge feels like an area that doesn’t offer much of a nightlife, which constricts social growth among the campus community.
“There aren’t many places to go around campus for drinks,” CSUN junior Miluchia Siabala said. “Our options are limited when it comes to drinking and socializing with friends in Northridge.”
Even when students find places, it feels like the diversity or options are few and far between.
“Places like Yard House are popular enough, but more options would be nice,” said CSUN senior Dylan Litt. “The lack of places to socialize seems more of a reflection of the Valley itself than it does CSUN or Northridge.”
Don’t give up just yet. Although it might require a little driving, there are a few spots that are worthy of going to on a Friday night.
Here are some places to where you can catch a ride and enjoy a craft beer or a tasty cocktail.
1) Crazy Harry’s Bar: Sure, the first thing you might notice is a few older-looking regulars sitting at the bar, but the beer list is always on point. Their motto is “no crap on tap,” and they stay true to that slogan. They serve a variety of craft beers from Los Angeles, along with other California beers. It seems like there is always one option of beer on nitro with a creamy texture. Moreover, they have a few pub food options like pretzels and sausages. This is a good place to start off the night before heading to the main event.

2) Taps Valley Gastropub: The name says it all. This place has about 20 draft beers for your drinking pleasure. Flights are available for $12, and you get four 6-ounce beers of your choice. You also get 10% off instantly when you pay with cash, an instant bargain for the craft beers served. Taps also offers “La Fin du Monde,” a rare find. This is another spot to have a few beers, some dinner and be on your way to the next location.

3) The Local Peasant : The farthest away on the list, but probably The Local Peasant is the best place to go if you’re looking to eat, drink, socialize and stay out until 2 a.m. They serve beer and wine on tap but also offer craft cocktails. The food is all-American, so that means burgers, fries and pizzas as main dishes. Also on the menu is a crispy buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with heirloom tomatoes, red wine vinegar lettuce and a jalapeño-dill spread on a jalapeño-cheddar pretzel bun.

4) Total Wine and More: Perhaps the safest and most economical way to drink and socialize in Northridge is to gather at a friend’s house. The best place to buy alcohol is Total Wine and More because of their vast selection of beer and spirits. Beware, once you step foot in here you might spend more than you were planning on.

Though places for students to go around campus are limited, there are endless options off of campus.
