An estimated 1,000 copies of the Daily Sundial were vandalized across campus earlier today, sparking a search for the vandals and any witnesses that may have information.

The newspapers were removed, in some cases completely, from at least ten stands and thrown into adjacent trashcans.

The Sundial was made aware of the situation at about 12:15 p.m. when Photo Editor Hannah Pedraza called in and reported that a student informed her that they saw a woman throwing away a stack of papers from the newspaper stand on Jacaranda Walk outside of the Freudian Sip.

“I was walking out of Arbor Grill and began walking towards the library. I was walking by Freudian Sip and saw a girl open the box, grab a stack of papers and throw them in the trashcan next to the box,” senior business major Mihram Geheyan said.

“I noticed she was on the phone and clearly heard her say, ‘I just got 75 of them and threw them away’ After she walked away I thought to myself ‘did she actually do what I think she did.’ And then I looked in the trash and saw a stack of newspapers in the trash,” Geyehan added.

Other anonymous sources reported similar incidents across campus, but there are currently no suspects.

The campus police have been notified and a report has been filed.

  • Greek

    Greeks control this school.

    • No they don’t.

That’s really funny. Maybe at SDSU they do, but at CSUN…not so much.
      sorry to burst your bubble.

  • Nic

I am angered and ashamed that one one of my peers would do something like this. I have unfortunately noticed that there are many students at the university who still act as though they were in middle school. As CSUN students we should strive to set the standard.
When a newspaper is published, wether it is the New York Times or the North Hollywood High School Chronicle, history is also being published. The people that did this might as well go into the library and throw away unread books.

  • Older Student

Wow, what a mature thing to do. Perhaps they did not have the skills to write a Letter to the Editor to express their opinions?

Oh wait—-I have a solution! They can learn those skills in college if they didn’t pick them up in high school! Those vandals are in the right place to get some help with their communication and free speech skills.

Such act adds credibility to the article written in the Sundial. If there was no truth to it, they would have left it alone; or they could have written a letter to the editor, renouncing it.

Plus, what they were oblivious to the fact that Thursday’s Sundial is also released on Friday, so Many of us still got our copy.

    Sincerely,

  • Missy

Although it does not justify the act, I was disappointed that this article does not mention the suspecting reason for the ‘vandalization’ for those who are not aware.

  • Manny

Im glad someone is taking a stand against the newspaper. I’ve read that sorry excuse for a news journal for the past 4 years and its sickening. The amount of grammatical errors and basic lack of writing skills makes me embarrassed to call myself a CSUN student. It seems to me that they are more concerned over pushing advertisements in our face than actually reporting on something of interest.

    • Lou

How is trashing a paper making a stand? If you care so much about journalistic standards I would think that you would either write a piece yourself or send in letters expressing your concern. Be constructive instead of complaining. Or, don’t bother reading the publication at all if it bothers you so much.

    • victoria

      MANNY,

Nobody is making you read the damn paper.

And if you have a problem with it why don’t you try writing for the Daily Sundial since you must be an expert on grammar and have awesome writing skills.

      • General CSUN Population

        MANNY!!!

If the Sundial didn’t push so many pages and pages of advertisements on us, where would all my toilet paper come from??? Come on man, it’s really quantity over quality in this situation!

  • erica

What are these disrespectful idiots doing going to a university? Anyone who cares so little about other peoples’ right to free speech sounds straight outta fascism. But then again, you idiots probably don’t even know what that word means.
I’ll put it to you this way, if I go to your party and drink all your alcohol without permission before anyone else gets any, it’s considered theft. Same principle. Get it now?

  • victoria

If they had an issue with the paper they should have wrote a letter to the paper instead of throwing away the newspaper.

    Plus they didn’t even recycle!

  • So What?

How is throwing away news papers a crime? What do students usually do with the papers? They get thrown away at the end of the day. Who cares? This is the most recognition the Sun Dial ever gets.

  • Kimberly Sucks

awwww poor baby…. the students don’t like their paper.. maybe its time for a new editor!! maybe one who will know when a story is not too opinionated against a large population of campus!!

    • Vanessa

wow.. you are taking this to the extreme.. it’s really not that serious.. relax.. you are acting like if she wrote about abortion or gay marriage..
read the article again.. you clearly didn’t understand it..
      it’s sad really..
it is funny because you were probably one of the people who threw away the papers..
nice way to defend yourselves.. the legitimate way to defend your selves would have been to prove that you guys are not just party freaks.. frats and sororities are not supposed to be like an average college student.. helloooo open your small eyes..

  • Chelsea Underwood

    stupid sororities…

  • Eric

Oh no, the crappy sundial was vandalized, whatever will we do?

    • Paralegal in Training

Be subjected to a fine of $1000 or more? Or maybe a year in prison?

      • Worst. Paralegal. Ever.

        California Penal Code 490.7

        e) A first violation of subdivision (b) shall be an infraction
punishable by a fine not exceeding two hundred fifty dollars ($250).
A second or subsequent violation shall be punishable as an infraction
or a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor conviction under this section is
punishable by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500),
imprisonment of up to 10 days in a county jail, or by both that fine
and imprisonment. The court may order community service in lieu of
the punishment otherwise provided for an infraction or misdemeanor in
the amount of 20 hours for an infraction, and 40 hours for a
misdemeanor. A misdemeanor conviction under this section shall not
constitute a conviction for petty theft.

Please tell me you aren’t getting your legal training from CSUN…

    • Vanessa

hahahha “paralegal in training” you tell eric!!!
