The CSUN men’s track and field program won four events at the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday.
The team was led by junior Louis Pancotti, freshman Kurt Felicitas and senior Jared Cape.
Pancotti won the pole vault in a new personal best of 16-01.25 feet, beating Cal Poly’s Tomi Nord (15-07.25) and Fresno Pacific’s Zach Unfress (15-01.25). Senior teammate Trent Tunner also turned in an all-time best, jumping 14-07.50 for fourth place.
Meanwhile, Felicitas impressed in the triple jump, winning the event in a new personal best of 48-02.75, with Brenden Scott in second (44-04.75).
Scott returned to the track to take seventh in the 400-meter run, clocking 52.43, his second personal record of the day, while senior teammate Isaiah Cantu ran the fastest mark of his collegiate career since 2013, finishing second in 49.13.
Cape gave the Matadors a third victory in the 100-meter dash, winning section two in 11.09.
Also finishing well in heat one was juniors Andre McBride in second (10.51), Kiyoshi Johnson in fifth (10.74) and Ian Harriot in seventh (10.91). All three set personal records in the event.
In the 4×100-meter relay, the quartet of Cape, McBridge, Harriot and Johnson toppled powerhouse Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Fresno State, and Cal State Bakersfield to win the event in 41.15. Cal Poly finished in second place in 41.56, with Fresno State in third place in 42.14.
CSUN also had strong performances in the 200-meter dash, with five athletes finishing among the top 10. The Matadors were led by McBride’s second-place finish of 21.21, with teammate Harriot finishing third in 21.69. Tyree Harriot, Cape and Cantu rounded out the top 10 in eighth (22.56), ninth (22.66) and 10th (22.67).
The program closed the day with a third-place showing in the 4×400-meter relay, as Re’Quan Harley, Tyree Harriot, Scott, and Anthony Teart finished with a time of 3:23.94.
