Class experiment causes tension at A.S. finance committee meeting

A “comical” experiment run by students in a recreation and tourism management course caused tension at the Associated Students finance committee meeting on Monday. Jim Palmer, a student in the RTM 280 course and current member of the finance committee, placed the funding request and represented the class at the meeting.

Lecture series allocation made in spite of A.S. committee’s decision

Despite Associated Students finance committee members’ decision on April 23 to postpone deliberation concerning the recommended allocation for the Speak Your Mind lecture series, the A.S. Senate has now voted on and approved a budget of $15,001 at the request of A.

A.S. Finance faces major leadership changes in 2007-08

Associated Students Director of Finance Adam Haverstock, along with the A.S. finance committee’s assistant director and two board members, will be leaving the committee at the end of this fiscal year. Haverstock, who has been elected A.S. president for next year, and his current assistant director of finance, Josh Hansen, who has been elected vice president, will be assuming their respective positions near the end of this semester.

Multimedia dance performance comes to CSUN

Dancers, actors, vocalists and videographers come together to create a surrealistic interpretation of quantum physics in a performance titled “Rage to Know,” which will be appearing at CSUN on April 28. Soothing violin, upbeat tempos and abstract vocals make up the backdrop for the four members of Donna Sternberg and Dancers as they use their bodies to inspire thought of some of the most complex theories in present day.

A.S. committee recommending next year’s money

The Associated Students finance committee has begun allocating money that should be set aside for next semester’s unallocated reserves account, A.S. General Manager David Crandall said. Excess enrollment fees have added about $90,000 more to the unallocated reserves account.

The Associated Students Finance Committee members discussed A.S. President Adam Salgado’s review of next year’s annual budget, voted on changes to the budget language, and allocated funds from their unallocated reserve account at their Monday meeting. The Intercollegiate Athletics department may receive an increase of $4,600 from the original recommended amount of almost $1.

University Student Union fees will be rising once again in the fall if the Student Recreation Center referendum passes at the polls on April 17-18. The newly proposed Student REC Center would cost approximately $70 million and encompass 125,000 square feet.
