The women’s volleyball team opened Big West Conference play on a sour note losing their first two games at the Matadome this weekend. Northridge played host to the University of California, Santa Barbara where it lost in five sets in a thriller Friday night and to Cal Poly in three sets on Saturday. CSUN vs. UCSB The Matadors (6-10 overall) (0-2 conference record) hit a match low, .023 in the first set compared to .237 by UCSB. “We didn’t come… Read more

CSUN men’s soccer ready to end six-game road trip

The CSUN men’s soccer team (0-5-1) will play the last match of a six-game road trip when they square off against the University of San Francisco (1-3-1) Friday. The Matadors will end their longest road trip in more than 10 years, the longest road stretch for any team in the Big West Conference this year. The road trip began Sept. 5 with a 2-0 loss against Loyola Marymount. However, much of that was overshadowed by their youth and inexperience, as… Read more

Matadors women’s volleyball open Big West conference play at home

The CSUN women’s volleyball team kicks off Big West play with a pair of home matches Friday against UC Santa Barbara and Saturday against Cal Poly. Last season, the Matadors (6-8) lost both matches in three straight sets to the Gauchos (7-5). “Everyone is 0-0 in conference play, so it’s important for a good start,” said head coach Jeff Stork. “We will prepare for them, work on serving tougher, and be precise in our communication and convert on opportunities.” The… Read more

Future Trojans pay for Reggie’s mess

Reggie Bush and Pete Carroll took tremendous blows to their reputations because of the penalties handed down to USC, due to Bush’s acceptance of illegal benefits. Bush and Carroll have it easy, and the ones getting punished are the current Trojan players. Yes, Bush decided to be a good citizen and give back his Heisman Trophy. However, he will still be able to go home to his million-dollar house and look at his Super Bowl ring, knowing life is still… Read more

The CSUN women’s volleyball team snapped its three-game winning streak, after losing to Loyola Marymount 3-1 at the Matadome on Tuesday night. “We’re disappointed that we lost,” CSUN head coach Jeff Stork said. “It was a tight match.” In the first set, the Matadors trailed 5-1 before going on a 4-0 run to tie the score. The Matadors again tied the score at 7-7 after a serve ace by freshman opposite hitter Natalie Allen. The Matadors did not get any closer in… Read more

Matador freshmen continue to shine

The Matadors again received help from freshmen opposite and outside hitters Natalie Allen and Mahina Haina, who combined for 32 kills in a loss to Loyola Marymount University on Tuesday night at the Matadome. “The team needed to convert on opportunities,” CSUN head coach Jeff Stork said. “Them two are two good all around volleyball players.” Including the match against the Lions, the freshmen have combined for 290 kills on the season. However, it was not enough as they lost… Read more

Mattingly might be right fit for Dodgers

I don’t want to say they are forgotten, but it seems like the once-proud franchise of the Dodgers has made headlines for all the wrong reasons this year. With the McCourt divorce battle, which I think will play out for another year or two, plus the postseason failures the last few seasons, Los Angeles finds itself with a head-coaching change. Former major leaguer and current Dodger hitting coach Don Mattingly was named the successor to Joe Torre in a press… Read more

CSUN men’s soccer remains winless but stay calm

Another opportunity for the CSUN men’s soccer team (0-5-1) to attain its first victory of the season only leads to more questions. Northridge went 0-2 in the University of Akron Tournament over the weekend. CSUN is now winless through its first six games and has been outscored 12-2 and outshot 91-63. Up until this year, in Terry Davila’s 12 seasons as CSUN’s head coach, the Matadors have never gone more than two games before they got their first win. However,… Read more
