Sunday’s Super Bowl, which is a rematch of the Giants’ 2008 upset victory over the then-18-0 Patriots, raises one question: can Tom Brady exact his revenge and bring home a fourth championship? The answer, undeniably, is yes. Not only has Brady played with a chip on his shoulder his entire career due to being drafted in the sixth round, but he also has a superb clutch gene, as he’s led his team to 24 fourth-quarter comebacks. Oh yeah, and there’s… Read more

There can only be so many things said about CSUN’s last two performances. Mainly, the team has tallied two more wins, but at a cost. The Matadors, who are in first place in the Big West Conference, have collected 106 rebounds in the past two games, but that statistic has been overshadowed by another stat that no team would want to see on its record. Despite crashing the boards effectively, the team has accumulated 60 turnovers in the matches. “It’s… Read more

One would think a coach would be happy after seeing their team come back from 32-24 halftime deficit. That wasn’t the case for CSUN head coach Jason Flowers after the Matadors (12-9, 6-2 Big West) won 54-52 against CSU Bakersfield (4-19) Saturday night at the Matadome. He took his time as he tried to find the right words to say about his squad’s performance. “We were making (bad) decisions with the basketball,” said Flowers, carefully commenting on his team’s back-to-back… Read more

Men’s basketball: Matadors fight valiantly before Fullerton’s clutch layup sinks them

fsfs

Going down the wire in a seesaw battle between teams in the opposite poles of the Big West Conference standings Thursday night, it was Cal State Fullerton’s turn at attempting to swing up on the scoreboard, and guard Kwame Vaughn delivered with a head-first driving layup to put his team up two. Given only 3.8 seconds to shoot back, the Matadors were in a dangerous territory. Even more so because they were out of timeouts. “We lost some timeouts I… Read more

Men’s basketball: Coming off a rough loss, Matadors host Titans

Two years ago, the Matadors had an overall record of 11-21, their worst season under Bobby Braswell’s 16 years as head coach. Throughout that 2009-10 season, Braswell lost patience with the lack of leadership and chemistry the team displayed. With 17 games gone by, this year’s Matadors, who have a record of 5-12, are on pace to finish with more than 21 losses. To make matters worse, CSUN lost by 46 points to Cal Poly Saturday and allowed the Mustangs… Read more
