Another woeful shooting performance, another loss. After defeating San Diego Christian on Tuesday to record its first win of the season, CSUN went back to its struggling ways and was crushed by Drake 73-49 Saturday night at the Knapp Center. Similar to the 30-degree weather in Des Moines, Iowa, the Matadors (1-4) shot a cold 35.1 percent (20 of 57) from the field, paving the way for another road blowout loss. Even CSUN leading scorer Stephan Hicks had a rough… Read more

After getting off to its best start since 1998 at 2-0, CSUN dropped two in a row, but bounced back in its home opener Friday night with a 71-60 win against Colgate (0-6) at the Matadome in the Woodland Hills Thanksgiving Classic. Even though the Matadors (3-2) shot 31 percent  from the field for the game, they were able to pull off the win to advance to the championship round of the tournament Saturday night against West Virginia due to… Read more

W-Vball: Matadors sweep in season finale against Air Force

AFSFS

The Matadors (16-13) wrapped up their best season in seven years with a non-conference sweep over visiting Air Force (3-27) Friday afternoon at the Matadome. CSUN, for the most part, made quick work of the Falcons in the first two sets before having to rally back in the third to get its sixth home sweep of the season. The Matadors were up 9-5 in the final frame before Air Force turned the tables on them and outscored them 18-11 to… Read more

Weekly Column: Despite nightmare season, there’s reason for optimism in Dodgertown

Outfielder Matt Kemp, who signed an eight-year deal last week to stay in Los Angeles, was one of the bright spots for the Dodgers during a rough season. Kemp led the National League in home runs and RBI this past season. Photo Credit: Courtesy of MCT

Maybe the shadows were a sign. The ones that covered the Dodger Stadium field on a late Thursday afternoon on Opening Day, the ones that make it so hard for hitters to see the ball during start times at Chavez Ravine. Maybe the fans that attended the game and saw what was laid out before them should have known that this wasn’t going to end well. The Dodgers defeated the Giants that day in a low-scoring affair – a game… Read more

Four field-goal attempts into his night, CSUN guard Josh Greene’s bid to snap out of his early-season shooting funk wasn’t looking promising. Even as the Matadors (1-3) were beginning to run away with what eventually became a 95-68 win against overmatched San Diego Christian, Greene kept struggling. He’d missed every shot he’d taken and was lowering his field goal percentage for the season to unholy grounds. “It’s basketball,” Greene said. “You’re going to miss shots, you’re going to make shots…. M-Bball: Badly out-rebounded in last outing, CSUN looks forward to bounce-back home game vs. San Diego Christian

fafasdfa

The Matadors seem to be going backwards three games into the young season. Three days after putting up a valiant fight in a season-opening 66-59 loss at USC on Nov. 11, CSUN travelled to Hawai’i and was handed a humbling 86-67 defeat. Then on Saturday, Boise State bulldozed CSUN (0-3) by 42 points. “Our defense wasn’t on top,” CSUN guard Vinnie McGhee said of the 103-61 loss to the Broncos. “We weren’t boxing out, we weren’t rebounding, so that killed… Read more

W-Bball Notebook: CSUN off to best start in years

fdsf

After opening the season with a four-game split on the road, the Matadors (2-2) come back to the Matadome looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The last time CSUN started the year with two wins and two losses was back in the 2006-07 season under then-head coach Staci Schulz. Current head coach Jason Flowers is glancing over the fact that his team is starting better than in past seasons. “Our expectations are a little bit different than everybody else’s,”… Read more

W-Vball: Matadors end Big West season with perfect Senior Night against Mustangs

SFSSSFS

With the game already in the bag Saturday night, the Matadors’ focus shifted from “let’s get this over with” to “let’s have our seniors get this over with.” Ahead 24-19 in the third set of its last Big West Conference game of the year against Cal Poly and having had its prior two kill attempts blocked, CSUN took a timeout to set up a definitive senior-to-senior game-winner. Setter Sam Orlandini lobbed it up. Outside hitter Una Siljegovic put it down,… Read more
