CSUN’s women’s tennis team (0-2) lost to No. 6 Cal and No. 44 Saint Mary’s 4-0 after rain had pushed both ITA Kick-Off matches to Sunday. The matches were played at the Hellman Tennis Complex located in Berkley, CA.
Junior standout Vivian Lin was ahead in her singles match before the rain caused it to be postponed.
In the match against St. Mary’s, a program that has advanced to six of the last seven NCAA Tournaments, the Matadors refused to go down easy.
Lin and freshman Skyla Alcon captured the Matadors’ first victory of the season against St. Mary’s, 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles draw. Also in doubles play, juniors Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei rallied from a 1-4 defecit to go ahead 6-5 before losing the tiebreaker.
Poei and Alcon had their singles draws stopped before completion since the match winners had been allocated already.
The Matadors look to put a win on the column board against Loyola Marymount University on Jan. 30th . The two teams will square up at 11 a.m at the Matador Tennis Complex.
