As the fall semester comes to a close and winter break begins, several CSUN athletics teams are starting their preparations for the spring season.
Many big games are ahead for these Matador squads, varying from schools in the Southeastern Conference, Big Ten and Pac-12. Here is an overview of what is to come for CSUN Athletics.
Softball
The first half of the softball schedule has an exciting set of matchups against some great teams in a tournament style opener.
The season will open up with a match against Ole Miss, who made the NCAA playoffs but ultimately lost to the University of Oregon. If the Matadors can pull out a win against Ole Miss, it could mean great things to come for this year’s team.
That game will be followed by Portland State and Boise State in the Cal State University Fullerton Tournament.
The Matadors will also play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, featuring another thrilling set of matches that include Brigham Young University, the University of Utah, Seattle University and Oregon State University.
The home opener for the Matadors will be a double header against UC Riverside on Friday, March 6, 2026, with the first game at 1 p.m. and the second game scheduled at 3 p.m.
Men’s Volleyball
The Matadors will start with a few sets of away games before making their way back to Premier America Credit Union where they will play against Long Island on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at 6 p.m.
Some notable matchups this season include games against USC and UCLA. While the Matadors fell short against both teams last season, they look to bounce back and build off of last year’s winning season.
Women’s Water Polo
Coming into the season, women’s water polo has a fair mixture of home and away games.
Their first games will be against Cal Lutheran and Fresno Pacific at the Samuelson Aquatics Center on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026, with the first game set for 9 a.m. and the second to follow at noon.
The home opener for the Matadors will be against Austin College and Concordia for the CSUN mini invite, which will take place on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Two exciting matchups for the Matadors include a matchup against USC and another game against Hawai’i. With only a week between these two games, it should prove to be a tough yet fun set of matchups for the Matadors.
The Matadors fell short last year to Hawai’i, however, they proved that they could keep up with the highly ranked team and will look to take home a win. They will travel to the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex to play the Rainbow Warriors on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 9 p.m.
Women’s Tennis
This season, the Matadors will pick the racquets back up against Long Beach State at the Beach Tennis Winter Invite during the weekend of Jan. 16, 2026. They will then return to the Matador Tennis Complex to play against Caltech on Saturday, Jan. 31 at noon.
Baseball and beach volleyball have yet to announce their schedules, so there is more news to come within the next few months for CSUN athletics.
Although the fall-winter season is ending, Matador Athletics has more events coming up, with several new additions to the teams due to the transfer portal and signings across the nation. It should be an invigorating second half of the academic year to see how these teams will perform come game time.
