Smoke was visible at the construction site beside University Hall, causing a brief street closure late Monday afternoon.
Transportation security redirected traffic and pedestrian crossings. One nearby resident said the smoke smelled “chemical.”
Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident. One of the fire investigators at the site said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
