Facebook newest venue to find coupons for students

It is apparent to most Facebook users that gone are the days of Mark Zuckerburg’s insistence that Facebook remain ad-free. In fact, Facebook is now a highly useful platform for businesses and companies to generate new customers and even offer coupons and discounts.
With the “Like” button, fans can have these deals sent straight to their news feed. The Sundial looked up some of the best ways to save using Facebook.

In addition to being a regular website, the Facebook page of Coupons.com offers fans printable coupons right on Facebook. Most of these coupons are for grocery products; helping college students expand past a Top Ramen diet. By typing in a zip code, fans are able to personalize the coupons to grocery stores near them. The page also has a sweepstakes and a video tutorial on “Real World Savings,” telling fans how to save the most with coupons. For online shoppers, there are coupon codes that can be entered into various sites.

Target posts its weekly ad on Facebook, making it easier for students who often don’t get paper ads to see what’s on sale. Their wall also shows links to discounts on their online store. Certain items are highlighted on their posts as well, with blurbs set to entice fans to go to Target and buy them, even if they are not on sale because of Target’s typically low prices. Target is also sure to post when highly anticipated items come out, like the release of the Breaking Dawn Part 1 DVD.

Southwest usually has some sort of promotion or game on its Facebook page for fans to participate in. They have done “Spin the Wheel” types of games in the past. Southwest’s last promotion was called “Fare Play” which calls out other airlines for their baggage fees. Fans were encouraged to “flag” the other airlines, like in a football game. They also show their YouTube channel and offer information about their Rapid Rewards program. Rapid Rewards offers free flights after people acquire points, which can usually be done fairly easily. Rapid Rewards points also have no blackout dates and don’t expire. Flights through Southwest can be an affordable option for college students.

The Los Angeles Times hosts this Facebook fan page and links fans to numerous daily deals that they can purchase through the site, much like Groupon does. The perks of LA Deals, that Groupon does not have, is its exclusivity to Los Angeles. On their Facebook page, LA fans and CSUN students can find deals for restaurants, trips and stores that they would not normally find. LA Deals just finished up a promotion for liking their page to win $50 toward holiday gifts. Their next sweepstakes is not yet posted, but fans can be sure that it will be something good.

Chegg is often a college student’s best friend. With its Facebook page students can stay in the know with Chegg deals and other things going on in the education world. Chegg has been expanding in the past few years, incorporating companies like NoteHall, where students can buy and sell classroom notes, and other companies that help students schedule their classes. Sometimes, especially around the start of a quarter or semester, Chegg will post promo codes on their Facebook page for fans to use to save more on books. As always, Chegg plants a tree for every order placed.
