Rising intensity

The Matadors are in control for now. Mark Hills has gone to the bench after picking up his second foul and Rodrigue Mels has stepped in to replace him at point guard. Mels has had two steals, one of them he took coast-to-coast for a dunk that made fans get on their feet. CSUN leads 35-24 with 3:55 to go in the first half.

Mark Heeeeeel …

Well Mark Hill was due and, so far, is a main reason for why CSUN’s up 27-18 with 10 minutes to go in the first half. Hill’s got seven points, four assists and no turnovers. He must foreced a Long Beach State airball. Certainly all momentum is with the Matadors at the moment. Let’s hope I didn’t just jynx them.

Good start

Both teams are playing at a high level. Larry Anderson is being a wonder freshman again and has six of the 49ers’ 10 points. CSUN leads 14-10. Mark Hill has three assists, totaling three more than he had total in his last outing (0). Donovan Morris is in off the bench for LBSU.

All available seniors start

Rodrigue Mels was inserted into the starting lineup for CSUN. Tremaine Townsend and Rob Haynes, as expected, also started, along with Mark Hill and Willie Galick. I haven’t seen Deon Tresvant. Josh Jenkins is on the bench in street clothes.

No fight song

It’s the last home game of the season. It’s the last time in 2008-09 that the Matadors will enter through those doors to their home crowd and there was no fight song to receive them. Fortunately enough, the fans were there to receive them with multiple “Let’s go Northridge”‘s. It looks as if there will be a full house today. There is plenty of spectators wearing black and yellow. There will be no more tie in a couple of hours.

Mazzuto on Tresvant: “It’s unfortunate for all of us”

I spoke to CSUN Athletic Director Rick Mazzuto and while he said he wasn’t happy with Deon Tresvant being ruled out of Saturday’s game against Long Beach State – and quite possibly the rest of the season – he also made it clear he supported the unchanging of the guard’s playing status. In fact, obviously, it’s been his call all along. “I’m responsible for that decision (of Tresvant not playing),” Mazzuto said. “It’s unfortunate for all of us, but he’s… Read more
