Once again, it was outside hitter Matt Stork leading the charge for the Matadors, who – once again – swept (25-18, 25-18, 25-20) a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) rival. Two days after putting up 16 kills in a sweep of Ball State at home, Stork’s 20 kills were by far the most from anyone at the Matadome Friday night. Matador John Baker – along with three players from overwhelmed Loyola (Ill.) – was next in line with seven. “(Stork)… Read more

Three consecutive CSUN mistakes in the third set of Wednesday night’s match-up between the Matadors and Ball State were threatening to make the night longer than it needed to be. Ahead 2-0, CSUN had allowed the Cardinals to draw within 17-16, the closest it had been in the latter instances of any of the frames. “Errors happen. It wasn’t a big deal,” CSUN outside hitter Matt Stork said. While it seemed like the small run of errors carried some kind… Read more

Men’s volleyball – Ball’ing: Matadors face Ball State tonight

Matador Danny Rodrick sets the ball to one of his teammates in ther game against UCLA Friday night. CSUN continues its nine-game homestand as it faces Ball State tonight at the Matadome.

Owners of their first winning streak of the season following a home win against UC Santa Barbara last Wednesday, the Matadors had the misfortune of running into the top team in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation – and No. 1 team in the nation – Friday. Not even the usual edge of playing at home could spark CSUN’s efforts enough to take down UCLA then as the Bruins came away with a 3-0 win. Tonight, against a streaking Ball State… Read more

Down early in what turned out to be the most crucial set of the Matadors’ 3-2 win (21-25, 25-21, 30-28, 25-20, 15-9) over UC Santa Barbara Wednesday night, CSUN outside hitter Matt Stork saw the ball come at his feet at incredible speed for what was an almost-guaranteed UCSB kill. There was no time to dive for it, so Stork digged it up with a kick. “If I had to give a gameball tonight, it’d be to Matt Stork,” CSUN… Read more

Men’s basketball: Matadors experience season déjà vu in overtime loss at UC Irvine

IRVINE – To say the 16th season of head coach Bobby Braswell’s career at CSUN has been a struggle would be putting it lightly. Already ineligible to play in the Big West Conference Tournament to start the year, Braswell’s Matadors have taken enough tumbles through 2011-12 to ensure the coach will finish with the fewest single-season wins of his CSUN tenure. On Saturday night at the Bren Events Center, it seemed like the whole dreadful year had been concentrated and… Read more

Down two points with 4.3 seconds to go Wednesday night, CSUN head coach Bobby Braswell drew up a play for guard Josh Greene to be the hero who would send his senior teammates off with a win in their last home game of their careers. Greene, who coming into the game had scored 20 or more points in four of the Matadors’ last five games, got the ball on his own end of the court and dribbled as fast as… Read more
