CSUN President Jolene Koester to step down and retire

CSUN President Jolene Koester will retire by the end of Fall 2011. Koester sent out an email earlier today announcing her plan to faculty and students. Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Harry Hellenbrand who has worked with Koester said she will be missed. “It’s a big loss to us all – personally and collectively,” Hellenbrand said. Fight ends USU Matador Nights early

A fight at Matador Nights at about 12:20 a.m., April 23, brought the festivities to an early end. Two unidentified male suspects were apprehended by police. One was knocked unconcious for about 10 minutes before he revived. CSUN police has told festival goers to evacuate. With all but one senate seat filled and a constitutional amendment passed, CSUN students chose their peer representatives in elections held on campus and online Wednesday and Thursday. A.S. election results

A.S. election results are in. Amanda Flavin and Sydni Powell from Strength in Diversity won the bid for the presidency. Along with deciding who their new representatives will be for the 2011-12 school year, students voted and passed the sole constitutional amendment on the ballot, which proposed to move the A.S. elections from twice a year to once a year in the spring semester. Six CSUN dorms burglarized in span of two days

An unknown suspect(s) burglarized five dorm rooms on Wednesday, March 30 at the University Park Apartments. There was another burglary and an attempted burglary on Thursday, March 31. According to the CSUN police Campus Crime Alert issued on April 1, the suspect(s) gained entry by forcing bedroom windows open and stole laptops, an X-Box game console and a camcorder. CSUN student arrested in Sierra Hall

UPDATE: The unidentified CSUN student is Freddy Jesse Carias, 23, who was arrested on suspicion of spousal abuse, a felony charge, according to court records. Carias was booked at Valley Jail in Van Nuys and is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. BEFORE: An unidentified CSUN student was arrested outside of Sierra Hall Room 190 Wednesday afternoon. Demonstrators voice concern for future CSU students

CSUN students protesting for March 2 Day of Action met up in front of the Oviatt Library after two groups split to march to the west and east side of the campus. The students are protesting increasing fee hikes and Gov. Jerry Brown’s budget proposal to cut $500 million from education.
