Brian Anthony Gonzalez, 24, the suspect involved in the double homicide of a CSUN student, is charged with two counts of murder, said the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Gonzales faces domestic violence charges for killing his ex-girlfriend, CSUN student Emily Anne Fox, 22, and her friend, 24-year-old Jerred Scott, at their Winnetka apartment building.
In addition to the double homicide charges, Gonzalez faces allegations of using and firing a handgun.
If Gonzales is convicted of these charges, he’ll face the death penalty or life in prison without parole, according to officials.
These decision as well as a trial date will both be made at a later time.
According to the prosecution, Gonzales allegedly confronted Fox and Scott in the hallway of Fox’s apartment building on Jan. 17.
Scott attempted to leave the scene while Fox dialed 911, according to police. Prosecutors added that Gonzales caught up to Scott and brought him back to Fox’s apartment before shooting them both.
The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived to the scene and pronounced both victims dead.
Gonzales originally eluded police, but was detained outside of Los Angeles on Jan. 19.
More information will come as the Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate the case.
