Shanell Mondane, a 20-year-old business major, is currently working as an actress on a dramatic film. She loves acting and is trying to establish herself in the field. During her off time, she attends church with her brother.
“I feel like nothing is impossible. I mean, as long as God is around, nothing is impossible,” Mondane said.
Raised in San Diego, Calif., Mondane enjoyed living there but decided to move to Los Angeles because she wanted to seek more opportunities, not only in acting, but in business.
“I feel like in San Diego there’s mostly people who are already established in their careers and life. I, on the other hand, want to establish myself. That’s why I’m here,” Mondane said.
“I just love the fast-paced environment of L.A. I love the ‘time is money’ mentality. I like that … especially for someone who’s pretty young, living in the city is perfect.”
Mondane studies business law not only because it’s a broad field, but because she likes to play with words. She said that it allows her to learn what she can and cannot do. In business law, Mondane needs to be strategic and is forced to know what is legal.
Aside from her major, she loves to watch American football. She grew up watching football with her dad. Her favorite team is the Dallas Cowboys.
“I’m really close to my dad, so maybe that’s why I like football. But … I don’t know why I like it. Maybe because they get to hit each other,” Mondane said with a laugh.
“I guess I like football, because it’s very strategic,” Mondane said. “It’s like business law, except with business law you can’t hit people.”
When asked about her favorite things, Mondane said, “Peanut and jelly sandwiches.” She loves music and movies in her spare time. Comedy is her favorite genre of movies. Her favorite comedy right now is “Tropic Thunder.”
Being an actor is something many people aspire to, but for Mondane, it’s something that she is currently working on. She did not mention the name of the film she is working on, though she did say it was going to be a drama.
“There’s a lot of crying and screaming in this film. I love being funny. But being in a drama is fun,” Mondane said.
