The Department of Pan African Studies is inviting students to learn more about the civil rights movement of the 1960s from a professor who participated in protests.
Professor Paul Von Blum, a senior lecturer in Afro-American and communication studies at UCLA will present “The Civil Rights Movement: Personal Reflections from a Participant.”
Von Blum is also a political activist and the author of six books including “A Life at the Margins: Keeping the Political Vision”
Professor Von Blum taught at UC Berkeley for 11 years before moving to UCLA in 1980. His class lectures have been described as “extremely engaging” and his reputation is one for tackling difficult topics head-on, according to past students.
The presentation will be held on Friday, Feb. 22nd from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Jack and Florence Fermen Presentation Room in the Oviatt Library.
