Defense attorney’s for a Long Beach man accused of murdering 23-year-old CSUN student Abdullah Alkadi, was granted another postponement during the suspect’s appearance in the Los Angeles Superior Court this morning.
Agustin Rosendo Fernandez, 28, who was arrested and charged with the murder of the Saudi-born engineering student in October 2014, has pleaded not guilty.
The preliminary hearing in the trial is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015.
According to court documents, Judge David Walgren issued continuances, or postponements, of the preliminary hearing on March 19 and again on May 28.
“This case is getting a little bit old at this point,” he said in discussion with Deputy Public Defender Justine M. Esack, who is representing Fernandez.
Esack requested more time to prepare the “numerous transcripts” that will be referenced in the hearing. She said that those transcripts will be ready at the end of September–after the next scheduled hearing.
She did not say if the defense will request another continuance at that time.
