Over 4,000 CSUN students and guests gathered for the annual Big Show on Saturday, April 6th to see the one and only Steve Aoki.

“I am here to see Steve Aoki and see someone get caked! I think they did really great in choosing who to perform this year,” said Nataly, a criminology major who invited her aunt, sister and mom to the concert.

Hosted by Associated Students, Big Show was located at the CSUN Library Lawn where many arrived at 1:30 p.m., and while waiting for Aoki, CSUN had an array of products and activities for everyone to enjoy. Including free Rockstar Energy drinks, an inflatable obstacle course, a photo booth and hydration stations where students were able to relax and have fun.

Dressed for the occasion, sunglasses on and full of energy, everyone was ready to start the concert. The first opener for Big Show started at 3:00 p.m., where he connected and got the crowd started. Many gathered to the front and started fist-pumping to the beat of his music. An hour later, the second opener jumped right into performing, doubling the crowd in size and playing remixes of classic hits like “A Milli” by Lil Wayne and “Low” by Flo Rida.

Then at 5:00 p.m. Aoki arrived at CSUN and once on stage started off by yelling “Everyone make some f—–g noise!” with the crowd following suit. Aoki performed for roughly two hours performing hit songs like “Pursuit of Happiness,” “Azukita,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and even Latin hits like “Bailado Sola” and “Gasolina.”

The crowd constantly jumped, swayed and raised their hands up to all the songs. During the show, Aoki got up at his DJ booth and threw shirts in the crowd. The last moments of the concert featured the most anticipated event of the evening—the cake-throwing. Everyone chanted “Cake me!” and people got on top of others’ shoulders, everyone was yelling for Aoki to cake them. After the caking, Aoki wrapped up his set, heading to another show to his home in Las Vegas, ending Big Show 2024 as a big success.
