Provost Harry Hellenbrand will step down as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the end of the academic year, President Dianne Harrison announced in an email Friday afternoon.
Hellenbrand, who intended to step down in June 2017, made the decision over the winter break “that we should begin the transition sooner,” and CSUN will begin a national search for a successor to begin on July 1, Harrison said.
Despite stepping down as provost at the end of the academic year, Hellenbrand will serve as a special assistant to the president for the 2015-16 academic year, and will work on student success initiatives and grant projects, Harrison said.
Hellenbrand will leave CSUN after 11 years of service, which began in August 2004. He also served as interim president of CSUN for five months from January 2012 through May 2012 following former CSUN President Jolene Koester’s retirement and Harrison’s appointment as president in June 2012.
