Matador track, field earns shot at NCAA Championships

The Cal State Northridge track and field team competed in the West Regional Championships at Matador Track Complex on May 30 and 31, with six Matadors earning automatic berths to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Four additional athletes were awarded at-large selections for a school record of 10 athletes qualified to compete in the national championships, which will take place at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on June 11 through June 14.

Franklin taken by Galaxy in first round

Originally Published January 22, 2008 Sean Franklin, the Matadors' senior defenseman, was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the first round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Friday. As the draft's fourth overall pick, Franklin is the earliest selection ever from CSUN. Head coach Terry Davila said Franklin fits the Galaxy's needs and he could make a contribution to the team next year.

Matadors upset two at tourney

Originally Published May 1, 2008 The CSUN women's water polo team saved its best for last, pulling off two upsets in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament over the weekend at the Aztec Aquaplex on the campus of San Diego State University. After losing their first game to Arizona State University 10-8 on Friday, the Matadors beat Long Beach State 8-7 on Saturday and UC Irvine 7-6 on Sunday.

Matadors avoid sweep by Irvine; win UNLV series

Cal State Northridge closed out a five-game home stand on Sunday with a 4-1 win against UC Irvine, avoiding a sweep by the Anteaters, who took the first game on Friday 4-1, as well as Saturday's game 1-0. The Matadors started their busy week by defeating non-conference opponent UNLV on Tuesday 2-1 and on Wednesday 5-3.

Matadors earn four spots on All-Conference Team

The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team had four of its members named to the Big West All-Conference Team on April 29. Victoria Brymer and Kanykey Koichumanova were named to the Second Team in singles play, while the pairs of Kanykey Koichumanova/Brooke Doane and Victoria Brymer/Canna Furuta were named to the Second Team in doubles play.

Northridge loses series against Riverside, 2-1

The Cal State Northridge baseball team was just one out away from winning the second game of its three-game series against the UC Riverside Highlanders on Sunday, but ended up with a 4-3 loss instead, resulting in the series loss, as well. The Matadors headed into Sunday's rubber match in Riverside with a 1-1 split in the series after losing Friday's game 3-0, then coming back on Saturday to deliver a decisive 14-5 victory.

Matadors take on BYU tonight in MPSF semis

The Cal State Northridge women's water polo team closed out its regular season with two wins at Matador Pool on Saturday. The 15th nationally-ranked Matadors cruised to a 12-5 victory against 16th-ranked UC Santa Barbara in the morning, then spent the afternoon defeating ?Cal State San Bernardino 9-6.
